Even though the Grand Canyon is a national park it has had problems with air pollution the problem has been partly resolved. But the effects of man’s presence in the canyon makes me wonder just what it looked like so long ago and what it will look like should man continue to be destructive. This is one sight I would hate to see blocked because of pollution factors. So lets keep it clean. Try to respect the land. After all it took mother nature 17 million years to create it.

Change Your Behaviors and Transform Your Life!

 

Today I broke out of my comfort zone because of a conscious decision to mix things up big time. My normal workouts take place at 24 Hour Fitness. It is a low energy, low intensity environment and just a basic gym.

Golds Gym Venice is a 45 minute drive from my home so I decided to forgo the usual cardio at 24 Hour and take advantage of living so close to the Mecca. I could feel the difference the moment I walked in. The energy was so tangible you could slice it with a knife. The gym is frequented by bodybuilders, actors/actresses, athletes and normal folks who want to train at the most notable gym on the planet.

Cardio was on the menu this morning. I spent a few minutes on a back corner treadmill and Ray Liotta was to my left! Cool! I finished my warm-up and made my way across the room to the elliptical machine which gave me a different view of the room. Straight ahead of me was world famous bodybuilder Dennis James in a chest workout with legendary trainer Charles Glass. A few minutes later, Stone Cold Steve Austin walks by! This is a trip, I thought to myself! I am by no means star struck, and it still felt exciting to be in the presence of so many extraordinary individuals leading an ordinary life. Pro Bowler Brendan Ayanbadejo, an old friend from college, walked in and stopped to chat with me for a bit. It had been five years since we had seen one another. The trip was worth the journey already! As I was leaving the cardio room, I saw Tito Raymond, a well known bodybuilder, training a client and Shawn Ray coming into the gym with Lonnie Teper to do a shoot for Ironman Magazine. This was a preview for the upcoming Arnold Classic. The day was off to quite a start!

This is not a TMZ story about celebrity sitings. The story proves that breaking out of the “ordinary” routine offers up the possibility of “extraordinary” occurrences in life. Hold that thought…

After leaving the gym, I went for breakfast at the Firehouse, a famous bodybuilders diner just walking distance from Golds Venice. The menu is “bodybuilder” friendly and has outstanding food. Egg whites and oatmeal were on the menu for me because I was keeping things clean. On my way back to my truck, I stopped off at Max Muscle owned by Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler. There was another adventure in store for me and I did not want to miss a meal, so I purchased 3 meal replacements.

I left Venice bound for Hollywood. As I drove down Sunset Blvd, I passed Mel’s Diner, the Saddleranch, the Standard Hotel and a host of other Hollywood locales. On up into the foothills, I continued and arrived at the trail head for the Hollywood sign. I had never been before and the sign is considered Hollywood’s best known and most photographed landmark.

With a bottle of water and a camera, I set out on an hour long hike to get up close and personal with the sign. I’m not a hiker. Never been a hiker before. I am a hiker now! WOW did those hills feel awesome on my legs! The weather was incredible. The air was crisp, the sky blue, and the sun seemed to warm me from the inside out. I really felt happy being out there. I even took the opportunity to work on my tan. How many places on earth can you have your shirt off in February and be warm?

After a combination of hiking and jogging, I was as close to the sign as legally possible. I snapped a few pictures of myself standing proudly with the sign in the background before turning back. Talk about tough, I found out that trail running is no joke. I jogged all the way back to the bottom and my legs are sore now! This was certainly not a treadmill.

I thought of a great lesson today taught to me in a personal development seminar. The speaker admitted that the habits which enabled him to become a multi-millionaire were keeping him from becoming a billionaire. What a re-frame! This man has tremendous financial success and he understands and admits that the actions which allowed him to become highly successful in the eyes of most are keeping him from the next level.

I was never interested in hiking in the past. If the difference between being Joe fitness and Average Joe was one hike per month, I never would have realized it. Ask yourself how you can shake up every aspect of your life and force yourself out of your own way. When you do so, you will discover unlimited opportunity.

When Bill Gates, respected businessman and billionaire, struggles with creativity, he does something about it. For an entire year, he took a different route home from work every single day! He never repeated the same route! The forced cognition literally created new neural pathways in his brain and sparked change in his life.
